Crossroads International Student Ministries (CISM)

Position Summary

The Executive Director provides visionary, spiritual, and operational leadership to advance the mission of reaching international students studying at American colleges and universities for Christ. This role is responsible for strategic planning, organizational management, fundraising, and cultivating relationships with supporters and contributors, while ensuring all activities align with biblical values and principles.

Key Responsibilities

1. Leadership & Vision

  • Provide Christ-centered leadership that reflects the mission, values, and statement of faith of Crossroads International Student Ministries 

  • Develop and implement long-term strategic plans in collaboration with the Board of Directors

  • Inspire volunteers, and partners toward a shared vision and measurable impact

2. Program & Ministry Development

  • Facilitate the development of new ministries to international students through established campus ministries and local churches, emphasizing hospitality, evangelism, and discipleship

  • Provide practical support to existing ministries that serve international students (e.g., cultural exchanges, mentoring, and other practical support)

  • Maintain awareness of the cultural, religious, and social dynamics that affect international students and develop innovative approaches to engage students from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds.

  • Assess program effectiveness and impact through regular evaluations

2. Organizational Management

  • Oversee daily operations, programs, and administrative functions

  • Recruit, develop, and lead staff, ministry partners, and potential new board directors, fostering a healthy and mission-driven culture

  • Ensure organizational systems, policies, and procedures are effective and consistently implemented

3. Financial Oversight

  • Develop and manage an annual budget

  • Ensure financial integrity, accountability, and transparency

  • Work with finance staff/board to monitor financial performance and sustainability

4. Fundraising & Development

  • Lead fundraising efforts, including donor relations, scholarships, events, and campaigns

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with donors, churches, and community partners

  • Identify new funding opportunities to support growth and sustainability

5. Board Relations

  • Partner with the Board of Directors to fulfill governance responsibilities

  • Provide regular updates, reports, and strategic insights

  • Lead in the recruitment and development of new board members

6. Community & Ministry Engagement

  • Serve as the primary representative of the organization

  • Build strong partnerships with universities, campus ministries, Bible colleges, churches, and community organizations

  • Engage local congregations in hospitality and ministry opportunities

Qualifications

Required:

  • Demonstrate personal commitment to Christ and alignment with CISM’s statement of faith

  • Align with CISM’s statement of faith

  • Display passion for international students and cross-cultural ministry, as evidenced by ongoing personal involvement in ministry to international students.

  • Proven leadership experience (typically 5 years), preferably in a ministry setting

  • Strong organizational, financial, and strategic planning skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree

Preferred:

  • Experience in fundraising and donor development

  • Graduate degree in ministry, nonprofit management, business, or related field

  • Experience working with a Board of Directors

Work Environment & Expectations

  • Work from current location, no relocation required

  • Full-time position with flexible hours

  • May require occasional evenings and weekends

  • Periodic domestic travel

Compensation

  • Salary commensurate with experience

  • Benefits package (needs to be added: health, retirement, PTO, etc.)

  • Salary to be raised by individual but some financial assistance will be provided during first year of fundraising
